The goal of e-Gibalec application is to promote exercise as a part of a healthy lifestyle to schoolchildren. It motivates the children to cultivate the habit of being physically active during leisure time. Gamification techniques are used for the motivation purposes, such as earning coins by being physically active, earning special currency by reaching daily goals and a possibility to challenge a friend in certain activity. The awards can be afterwards used to buy items which enable different types of challenges

e-Gibalec utilises iPhone sensors (accelerometer and location) and intelligent algorithms to recognise the activity and estimate the users energy expenditure while active. The application also involves parents and physical-education teachers. The teachers will have access to the data collected by the application and will be able to use it for more effective physical education.

For schoolchildren:
When you move, smartphone sensors, such as accelerometers, recognize the type of movements - either sitting, walking or exercising more vigorously. Based on your body data (height, weight, and age), the application calculates how much energy you have used so far today and hints you whether you should exercise a bit more to stay in good shape.

For parents:
Follow your childs exercise and his progress! Scientific studies have shown that physical abilities of schoolchildren have considerably deteriorated in the last 20 years, mostly due to lack of physical exercise. This application will help your child keep fit and healthy.

For teachers:
A great tool to monitor the progress of the whole class! By looking at physical activity of schoolchildren throughout the week/month/school year, you can optimize the activities in the PE class to be as efficient as possible.

Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
